Sheryl Suzanne Crow was born on February 11, 1962, in Kennett, Missouri. Her father and mother played in a swing band, she as vocalist and he as a a trumpeter. Sheryl learned to play the piano by age 5 and wrote her first song at age 13. Attending the University of Missouri-Columbia, she majored in music composition, performance & teaching, and was playing in a college band named Cashmere. After teaching music for 2 years in a grade school for kids with special needs, she left St Louis and moved to Los Angeles where she worked as a waitress and picked up a few jobs singing for commercials. She auditioned as a backup singer for Michael Jackson and got the job for the two-year Bad world tour. She started a long career as backup singer for Don Henley, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Joe Cocker ... Sheryl was signed to A&M in 1991 and went into the studio to prepare her debut album. “Hundreds Of Tears” (on the soundtrack to the film Point Break in 1991) is the only released track from these first album sessions. She started to work with producer Bill Botrell who invited her to a series of jam sessions he held every Tuesday night during the summer of '92 at a studio called Toad Hall. The Tuesday Night Music Club was born. Sheryl's album, "Tuesday Night Music Club" was released in the fall of 1993. TNMC became a major hit in '94. The track "All I Wanna Do" became one of the major singles of 1994, pushing the album into multi-platinum status.
In 1995, Sheryl Crow took the reins herself and produced her new album. "Sheryl Crow" , her self-titled album was released in September '96 and Sheryl won a grammy for best rock album with hit singles such as "If It Makes You Happy", "Everyday Is A Winding Road" and "A Change". This Album was banned by the Walmart stores, after she refused to change the lyrics of the song "Love Is A Good Thing" ("Watch our children as they kill each other with a gun they bought at the Walmart discount stores").
In December '97, Sheryl was asked to write and performe the title song for the next James Bond movie "Tomorrow Never Dies".
Sheryl's next LP "The Globe Sessions", a more personal album (her writing on the first two records were more narrative), was released in September '98 with the first single "My Favorite Mistake".
In December '99, Sheryl released her first live LP "Sheryl Crow And Friends Live From Central Park" with such great artists like Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, Stevie Nicks ...
The brand new Sheryl Crow album, titled "C'mon, C'mon" , is scheduled to be released on April 9th!! The album's first single, "Soak Up The Sun" features backing vocals by Liz Phair. Eagles singer Henley appears on the track "It's So Easy". Kravitz sings on "You're an Original", and Maines adds her signature twang to "Abilene". Other guests on the upcoming album are folk and country veteran Emmylou Harris ("Weather Channel"), blues guitarist Doyle Bramhall II ("Steve McQueen", "Over You") and actress Gwyneth Paltrow ("It's Only Love").
