Welcome to MSN Live! This afternoon we are pleased to welcome Sheryl Crow to MSN Live for the first time. Sheryl's latest CD is "C'mon C'mon."
Hi Sheryl, welcome to MSN Live! Thanks for being here today.

Sheryl_Crow_Live says: Hey everybody! I'm so happy that everyone's tuning in! It's such a great day. We finally have the record out

Your schedule must be pretty crazy today as your CD is released. What's a day today like for you?
Sheryl_Crow _Live says: For me, it's a great personal relief because it's finally finished and now people get to hear it. It's really exciting!

Maybe I just don't get it, but what do the different numbers that are on your CDs mean? (31454 0959 2)
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: It probably means track listing. On 3 of the tracks I have outside help, so it probably refers to track listing.

What is it like to collaberate with artists like Stevie Nicks?
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: It's different with each artist. With Stevie, I know her so well, it's like working with a family member. We have a great time together and she's very receptive to new ideas. We had more fun in the studio than outside the studio. (laughs)

Sheryl, why was it important to do a tribute to 70s summer rock when you seem to have established such a niche in the music industry?
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: I wouldn't call this album a tribute to 70's rock by any stretch of the imagination. There are melody driven rock songs that aren't the standard, and that might revisit the 70's but it wasn't intentional.

Sheryl.. what do you think of Prince's cover of "Everyday is winding road"? Will you be working with him more?
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: I like his cover. I thought it was funny that he changed some lyrics to make a more gentle version. I'm still pals with him, I'm a big fan.

How much empasis do you place on the fans opinions? EX. your clothes, hair the songs they like or dislike...etc.
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: To be honest I don't read magazines or reviews just because I think it feeds into something that isn't healthy for me. It's better for me to keep my own vision and hopefully people will respect that.

Sheryl, you did a colloboration with Kid Rock but why it wasn't included in your new album, "C'Mon C'Mon"?
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: The collaboration I did with him actually went up on his record.

I love WeatherChannel, deep, intense mix of emotional music and poignant lyrics. You pictured the whole thing so well. How emotional do you get writing songs like this, how do you do it?
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: That particular song was inspired by a low period I went through. While you're writing, you're not editing yourself, you're trying to tell a truth, so those lyrics aren't calculated. And those songs are always the best songs to me.

Did you learn anything in high school which proved essential to the success of your performance career?
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: Thank you, funny you should ask that. I learned how to learn which is the most valuable thing I learned in high school and college. And I learned how to twirl the batton. (laughs)
DishDiva says: Has that skill ever come in handy since?
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: Absolutely! I have twirled after a Wallflowers show in nothing but a bikini and body paint. (laughs)
DishDiva says: I hope that is on a DVD somewhere. (laughs)
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: For posterity. (laughs)

Sheryl... Your music has had (and still has) such an impact on my life. Is it hard to put such personally emotional thoughts in such a public medium?
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: When I'm writing a song, it doesn't occur to me that people are going to hear it. I do it for selfish reasons. When a day like today comes and you know someone else is going to hear it, I get a little nervous. Hopefully the songs will resonate with them,
that's what music has always been to me.

Sheryl, your songwriting is why I buy your albums, I was curious to know how many songs are there that didn't make the new album? P.S. You have the most stiking eyes...quite beautiful. Thanks!
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: I think I recorded 21 songs and there are 13 on the U.S. version and 15 on the album outside the U.S. So I can say 6 definitely didn't make it.

I just got "C'mon C'mon" and I want to tell you that it is amazing. Thanks for another great record. After the difficulties you had naming it why did you eventually choose C'mon C'mon? Was it just the song or some other meaning? Thanks.
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: I named it that because I felt like the long winter we went through, metaphorically speaking, it was a stong indication about having your time i.e. summer.

Sheryl do you ever miss teaching and having a basic life? Or is that a silly question?
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: I have a pretty basic life with the exception of all the traveling I do. I am able to keep some anonymity. I have dreams about being back in the class room though. (laughs) I don't know what that means.
DishDiva says: You could always teach a Master Class.
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: I taught a short class at Dartmouth, it was fun to be back with college kids. They were much smarter than I was. (laughs)

Do you ever get stage fright?
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: I do get stage fright every now and again. If it's live TV or live, I get nervous.

I heard you were inspired a bit by The Grateful Dead. Are you a DeadHead!!!LOL
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: I am totally not a dead head, I'm ashamed to say.

I heard you used to be a backup singer for the Eagles, is that true?
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: No. I backed up Michael Jackson and Don Henley but not the Eagles.

Do you have any time for yourself now you're so busy?
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: Not very much right now, but I'm scheduling a vacation, which is something I've never done before. So hopefully I'll have some free time.

Will your concert in Central Park be released on DVD soon? Has anyone ever mentioned you switched the 2nd and 3rd verses on "White Room" Just curious.
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: No one's every mentioned that and it's entirely possible. Having said that, I'm going to go and check it out.

Hi Sheryl! This CD makes me want to take a road trip. What kind of car do you drive?
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: I have a little BMW X-5, it's the SUV. It's the first new car in my whole life.

What is the "driving force" that keeps you going?
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: I think the thing that keeps me going and interested in what I'm doing is that I feel I'm getting better at it. And I just love my job. I have the best job in the world.

Sheryl! C'mon C'mon is awesome! I'm listening to it now. Can't wait for the tour! What is your favorite song to perform live?
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: I really enjoy playing "C'mon, C'mon" the song. It has a great lilt.

Sheryl what is your favorite instrument to play?
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: I like to play bass while I'm performing. But when I'm not performing I like to play the piano.

How was it like performing live with all of those great artists, sharing the stage for live in NYC?
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: It is INSANE! I can't even explain how much fun that concert was!

Can you solve a disagreement? On 'soak up the sun', when you say, "I got my 45 on," Do you mean sunscreen or a 45 record?
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: Honey, I am all about that sunscreen.

Sheryl, whats your favourite out of all the songs you have written ?
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: "My Favorite Mistake," and "Riverwide," and "Home."

How do your and your incredible band decide what instrument you will play live? Are you gonna play accordian on this tour? i see Mike plays it on "C'mon C'mon" live.
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: We try to have a good mix of the old stuff and new stuff. And we try to keep the show upbeat. I'll definately be playing the accordion because no rock show is complete without it. (laughs)

When are you going to announce your tour? I know I can use a night out of singing and dancing.
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: You got to get out more. (laughs) I think the dates are already out on the internet.

Sheryl, anymore plans to try your hand at acting? I loved you in The Minus Man! You seem like a natural...
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: I think I'm a better musician than actor. And I don't like being in front of the camera enough to not want to act.

Which do you find more technically difficult? Computers or Composing?
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: I'm so not computer savvy so I would have to say computers are much more difficult to me.

What was the first LP you can remember falling in love with?
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: The first LP I got was with my own money "ABC" by the Jackson Five.

Is being on the road and touring one huge temptation to party?
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: No, it's all work, no fun, no laughing, no great memories, just boring old work. Ha ha!

When did you feel that you had your calling in life and did it come with adversity?
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: I always knew I wanted to be in music. My parents were musicians, and I always admired musicians. Anything that takes that long to develop and is full of adversity and rejection, is worth it to me.

What was your most memorable concert?
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: My most memorable concert for me was when I was 13 and I went to see Peter Frampton. I remember thinking that was the most rad job.

Sheryl, whats been the proudest moment of your career so far? How are you?
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: Becky, thank you, I'm doing quite well. My most proudest moment was singing with Pavarotti in Italy and my parents were in the front row. I think my mom finally thought I made it, all those piano lessons paif off. (laughs)

Sheryl, How is your beautiful dog "Scout". Does he still travel with you??? Hope he is doing good!
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: He's fine, I got him a new brother and sister from the pound. He's in great shape and ready to go on the road.

Sheryl, so who do you listen to now and is there someone special that you would like to sing with that you haven't yet?
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: I am listening to India.Arie and Outkast and Elton John's record. I would like to do something with India or Nelly Furtado, I think she's great.

If you could follow one band for a summer tour, past or present, who would it be?
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: Oh gosh! Cheap Trick or Queen.

Later on, when your grandkids are sitting on your knee, and they find the old CD's, what will you tell them was your favorite part?
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: When I get old and my grandkids are sitting on my knee I'll tell them the best part was having their mom (or dad).

What question do you get asked the most?
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: Right now I get asked if I had plastic surgery, and the answer to that is absolutely not.

Sheryl, thank you for joining us this afternoon to talk with your fans about your new CD "C'mon C'mon."
Sheryl_Crow_Live says: I'm so happy everybody tuned in. I wish I could answer everyone's questions. I look forward to getting out this summer and seeing you all.

DishDiva says: Thanks to Sheryl Crow for joining us this afternoon.
